Today marks the 5th Annual Black Marriage Day,
sponsored nationally by The Wedded Bliss Foundation. This event was created to
recognize, and inspire in others, the importance and significance of marriage in the Black community. For the 3rd year in a row, the Northeast Region of Mocha Moms organized an essay contest in
commemoration of this special day. The topic this year was “My Marriage’s
Defining Moment.”
A number of fabulous submissions
were received, so the choice of selecting two winners was not easy. A panel of
judges selected the winning entries based on their relevance to the topic, ability to inspire and overall writing style.
1st prize ($100): M. Tonita Austin-Hilley (Philadelphia Chapter) – note: Tonita also won the top prize in 2005!!
